2014 Meeting Schedule

Our tentative 2014 schedule is listed below. Note that it changes regularly as we add tool and material lists for upcoming meetings or make adjustments as necessary.

January - Making Plaster Jewelry (Carol Harder)

Tuesday, January 21 -  7pm

Carol Harder will show us how to make molded jewelry from plaster-gauze (used for broken bones!)

What to bring:
  • garbage bag or similar to cover workspace
  • rubber or latex gloves
  • small dish for water
  • wire (14-20 gauge, for armature)
  • wire cutters
  • pliers
  • jewelry, stones, found items for embedding into plaster

February - UV Resin (Ruth Schroeder)

Tuesday, February 18
Using MagicGlos and UV lights, fill provided bezels with images, inks and resin 
 

March  - Flood Copper or Brass with Solder and Stamp!

Tuesday, March 18 

Lynette Fisk will demonstrate using lead-free solder to cover metal bezels or shapes and adding bezels then using stamps to impress textures. PLUS we'll make our own bezels from flat copper sheet, which can be covered with solder. 


What to bring:

  • ruler, pencil, scribe
  • tin snips or metal cutting shears
  • agate or metal burnisher (if you have one)
  • square-nose pliers (or other flat jewelry pliers)

We will provide metal sheet, copper foil, pattern for bezel and small birdhouse!  Due to the fumes generated by soldering, we cannot have everyone using a torch, but we will demonstrate the process for all to see.

April - Epoxy Clay (Janice LeMasters)

May - Fold Forming (Cecilia Rosales)

Bring your hammers, bench block and ear protection. If you have a sturdy wooden stool or stump to set up on, bring that too! KCPMCGuild will provide copper sheet (24ga) for members, and will set up an annealing station to share.

June - Dowel Rod Art (Carol Harder)

Tuesday, June 17 - 7:00 p.m.

Marjorie Schick - a former colleague of Carol's - has a unique 

perspective and scale in her art jewelry. She started with a simple 

wooden dowel. This month you can try your hand at creating with dowels.





July - Riveting: Tube, Wire, and More (Lynette Fisk)

August - Piercing and Sawing (Carol Harder)

Tuesday, August 19 - 7:00 p.m.

Use of a jeweler's saw is a basic skill that has applications in a wide range of jewelry applications - even with metal clay.

 







Tools List: 
  • sawframe and blades
  • bench pin
  • scissors
  • needle files
  • hammer
  • flush cutter or flush nippers
  • bench block
Materials List:
  • colored metal (soda cans, bottle caps, scrap metal)
  • rivets (copper, brass, silver)
  • ear wires, bales or findings
  • E-6000 glue*
  • stones, cabs, etc for pendant
  • sand papers
Provided:
  • 3x3" squares of soft brass (NuGold) or nickel silver
  • paper and pencil

September  - Hundreds of Patinas (Pat Woods)

Tuesday, September 16 - 7:00 p.m.

Bring: Hammer, bench block and pad, scrubby, old tweezers, gloves, apron (wear old clothes!), rags, hole punch (optional)
Provided: copper and brass blanks, patinas, nitrile gloves, paper towels, face mask if you don't like smelly solutions!

October - Chain Maille (Pat Kuehn)

Tuesday, October 21 - 7:00 p.m.

Pat will demonstrate how to make jump rings in bulk AND get you started with constructing a chain maile pattern.

Bring: 2 flat nosed pliers and a needle tool


We'll provide enough jump rings for each person to make a pair of earrings.

November - PMC Charm Making Workshop

Tuesday, November 18 - 7:00 p.m.

We will work with PMC silver clay and make charms to exchange in December! Members should watch for a sign-up email so we know how much clay to order.

Bring: Your PMC tool kit, shape cutters, texture mats

Volunteers who have kilns will fire your pieces. Details to follow.

December - Gift Exchange and Party

Tuesday, December 16 -7:00 p.m.

Christmas Party and Exchange

Please bring treats to share. Beverages provided.
